Itinerary: Castel del Rio – Prato Piano – Coniale – Montecchio – Moraduccio – Castel del Rio.
This trail crosses fascinating woods and characteristic chestnut groves. Of special interest is Monte Fune, which offers a beautiful panorama. From the town of Castel del Rio, you initially follow a paved road to Montefune. You’ll reach Brillete and after going up a bit you’ll reach Prato Piano. You continue upwards and you’ll find a horizontal layer of stone, and finally a fork in the road, where you keep to the left descending along a particularly difficult trail. You’ll reach the stables of Casalino, and keeping to the left you go up the ridge between Monte Cucco and Monte Allovolo. You then go down towards the Santerno Valley along a path, which soon becomes paved, and after Monti and San Michele you reach the S.S. Montanara (State Road). Turning right you’ll arrive at the village of Coniale, where you’ll then follow the directions for Palazzuolo. At the 27.100 km., on the left, there is a steep upward hill, where there is a CAI path which goes along the ridge. You then go downwards along another rocky ridge and you arrive at Montecchio, from where you’ll quickly reach Moraduccio, going through some chestnut groves, and from there Castel del Rio along the S.S. Montanara.(State Road).
