The Luca Ghini Trail (on foot)
Il Sentiero Luca Ghini
In 1490, on the hills of Croara (Casalfiumanese), Luca Ghini - one of the founders of modern day botany – was born. There is a clearly marked trail, which follows an old country road, that goes up the Manusardi Park in Casalfiumanese.
Here, among the gullies, is the house of the scholar. Across the park go down towards Rio Casale; then up slightly following the stream; cross it over a small footbridge. You then cross over to Villa Masolini and go to the right, into Via Ceredola, and finally go up to the left along the side of a fruit orchard. You’ll reach the crest of the gully, with its beautiful panorama, and this will lead you to Ca’ Baladelli di Sopra. A hilly path will then take you to the ruins of Ca’ Frascari, near the cliffs of Rio Mescola (stream); at the ruins you’ll find the trail CAI 703 which you will follow until the hills.
