Sport in Imola

Over six thousand are people involved in various types of sport activities, about two hundred associations and fan clubs for a variety of sports and hundreds of people of different ages practice a sport for either passion or pleasure.

Anywhere you look, either in the parks or along the paths, you can see citizens jogging, whether rain or shine. The "Maratona dei Tre Monti" (Marathon of the Three Hills of Imola) is a special appointment that can't be missed: 15 km of scenic roads along the hills, can be confronted by those with legs of steel.

And what about cycling? Who can forget Pantani! There is at least one bicycle for every citizen, to be used simply to go shopping or to follow mountain bike trails with friends through the woods of the Apennine, or to race along the racetrack hoping to win the famous "Coppa Placci".

It is clear that Imola is a town of sport lovers, whether it be supporting one of the various town football or basketball teams, or playing five-a-side football, or bowls in one of the many community centres where also card games are played under the shade of large trees. No sport is as popular as the passion for motorcycles. Forty years ago famous names of motorcycle racing challenged each other along the racetrack of the Acque Minerali. The intuition of Enzo Ferrari to create a small Nurburgring paid off. In fact every year thousands of fans come to Imola with their red Ferrari flags for the Gran Prix of S. Marino at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Racetrack creating a festive atmosphere of excitement.
